"I can't believe it. For a third year in a row - the Great Sports Legends Dinner broke the record set for the most money The Buoniconti Fund has ever raised at a single event," said Marc Buoniconti. More than $2.6 million was raised on September 28th as some of the biggest names in sports attended the Nineteenth Annual Great Sports Legends Dinner at New York's historic Waldorf=Astoria.

 

In total, the Great Sports Legends Dinner has raised more than twenty-five million dollars. Over the years, 205 athletes have been honored at this event that recognizes their contributions to the world of sports and acknowledges their commitment to high ethical standards, dedication to their community, worthy causes and achievements as positive role models.

 

This year's honored Legends were Barry Sanders, Greg Norman, Michael Andretti, Robert Parish, Jerry Bailey, Kristi Yamaguchi, Cam Neely, Mia Hamm and Gary Carter. Julio Iglesias accepted The Buoniconti Fund award for "Outstanding Humanitarianism" and NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw was the Master of Ceremonies.

 

"Millions of people worldwide suffer from paralysis and in order for victims to achieve their dream of walking again research must continue to accelerate," said Nick Buoniconti. "It is the selfless contributions of many that make me truly believe that my son and all spinal cord injury victims will one day walk again."
